Day 24 - Whitefish Revisited

Whitefish, Montana, 07.24.2017

Okay, so today was supposed to be no blog & no pics as the plan was for doing an oil change on Whitey (okay, the Durango… one of us doesn’t like assigning personal characteristics to vehicles).

Did the oil change in Whitefish, MT, then back into the same town we stopped at a few days ago for lunch. Ate what may have been the best pizza west of the Mississippi at MacKenzie River Pizza Company. Split a half Athenian (spinach, olive oil, garlic, red onions, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, mozzarella cheese, dusted with feta) and the other half Clubhouse (chicken, smoky bacon, mozzarella, baked then topped with fresh avocado, sliced tomatoes & chilled romaine tossed with ranch). Not quite Mineo’s but close.

Checked out the Bulldog Saloon, hoping to maybe see photos of past Morningside greats with names like Tudi and Gasior. After some searching, we came up blank and then were asked to leave.

All in all, Whitefish, Montana would be a great place to live, if it weren’t so damn cold in the winter. It’s got it all: a big

lake, a huge skiing mountain and a town with scores of bars, restaurants and shops. Don’t miss it when you’re next in Northwest Montana.

One side note about Montana: come prepared to drive f.a.s.t. The interstates are 80 MPH speed limits and nobody goes that “slow”. So when they get off the interstates, the speed limits outside towns are usually no less than 60, which might be 35 or 40 in the same roads back East. When entering a highway, you learn to look left once, right once and then you gun it, getting up to speed as fast as possible. Only had one dude flip us the bird so we guess we passed the cowboy sniff test.
