Day 46 - Central Oregon

Bend, Oregon, 08.15.2017

We decided to hang out at home this morning through noon and grill a couple of awesome cheeseburgers on the new Homping tabletop grill. You place 6 or 7 charcoals in the middle and it heats up like a champ. Only 12 in. high and wide.

After lunch drove up to Sisters, Oregon, population 2038, but growing. The town is situated at the base of three separate mountains, named Three Sisters. It’s set up like a traditional western town (see pics) and has great shops and restaurants. Saw what looked like a good post-piano teaching biz for Carole Reilly --- Miss Sew-it-All.

From Sisters, moved down to a Trip Advisor suggestion: Tumalo Falls, about 15 miles west of Bend, OR. The falls were accessed by a 2.5 mile dirt road that produced lots of dust. The trip was worth it … the falls were as awesome as anything we’d seen in the National Parks.

To cap off the day, we drove up to Pilot Butte, a small mountain near the center of Bend, to see the sunset and to take in a panoramic view of the Bend area. It was great, as are all sunsets, but the smoke from three fires in the mountains (it’s fire season out West) diminished some of the view. Yet, just as the sun disappeared beyond the mountain with the orange and pink clouds, all was good.
