Day 39 - R & R

Salem, Oregon, 08.08.2017

We decided to take a break today and stick around the campground at the pool. The temperature was going to hit 93 and being around water that we could jump into to cool off sounded wonderful. We took our laptops and books and just relaxed.

This park was very nice. It was clean and the landscaping was beautiful. It had a pool, workout room, gift shop, walking trail and the best bathrooms we have ever seen at a campground. We just couldn’t quite figure out the people staying here. The first person we spoke with stopped by because he had an Airstream. He lived here year round. So, that gave us our first clue that this park had a mix of residents. Most of the people we saw were our age or older. However, at the pool we saw younger families. Judging by their appearance, we wondered if they were holding a tattoo convention in the area. We have never seen so many people with tattoos. And not just a few. Multiple tattoos all over with lots of sayings…long sayings. Some with a paragraph of sayings. We thought that maybe these families lived here and worked in the area.

At campgrounds, we have been used to seeing Dads riding their children in bike seats complete with helmets and safety straps. At this campground, we were treated with the sight of a one year old sitting in front of his Dad on his motorcycle totally free of any restraint riding around the neighborhood.

We’re beginning to think that it’s Oregon!
