Saturday and Sunday Adventures

We had a wonderful night at Phil and Kristine's and a great morning to just sleep in and just relax at at Phil and Kristine's home. It gave us a great chance to have some one-on-one time with them before we headed out to Loon Lake later today. We were spending one night in ThunderBay and then 3 nights with Duff and Holly at Loon Lake.

Holly had organized everyone to meet up at ThunderBay's food and

wine festival - Saviour Superior. It is an annual event that features the region's culinary, wine, spirit and beers. It was great to spend some time with everyone and sampling some great regional foods and sprits.

After Saviour Superior we headed back to get Roxy and then over to Duff and Holly's condo to check out their view of Lake Superior. What a spectacular location! Now that we have everything loaded we are headed out to Loon Lake. We spent a quiet evening in with a few smokies to snack on in the evening.

Sunday we woke early and headed out with Roxy for a walk around the west lake road. The " Camps" as the locals call them range from the original cabins that are 50+ years old to newer built buildings that are all year residences. Most of the lots are 50 ft wide on the lake but

some of the properties go up to 100 ft wide and a couple of hundred feet deep. It is a very quiet place to kick up and relax. The best thing to do is to bring your books and kick up to enjoy the waterfront views.

Duff's family has 2 lake properties on west loon lake road, 2 doors down from one another. The one property is the original cabin that was built by their great grandfather and now is owned by Duff's brother and family. The cabin has had a few additions over the years but the original main room and sun room is still there, right down to the thatched walls and historical artifacts. It was a pretty amazing cabin to wander through. Duff and Holly live 2 doors down in a cabin that was renovated a few years back and a large addition was built on the waterfront side of the old cabin. The windows are large floor to ceiling panels on the lake side. You can't help but relax!

After a relaxing day and great company we headed over to Barry and Janice's place for dinner. They live in a year round residence just down from Holly and Duff. Roxy was invited over and got to meet their cat. It went pretty well until the cat decided to hurry past Roxy. That of course ended in a chase until the cat was at the end of his leash and Roxy was scolded. Poor Kitty didn't know that Roxy would lick her all over and only wanted to play.

Janice cooked up some local fish they caught and had a fantastic

Kale and Quinoa salad. To keep with her gluten free dinner theme for Holly, she made a chocolate torte for dessert. Holly has Celiac's and Janice is so great and ensures that there is a complete meal that Holly can enjoy each and every time they get together. So considerate.

I originally thought that we could walk home the 1.5 km after dinner to Duff and Holly's place, but when we got walking down the lane it was so dark that I changed my mind. There has been a bear and coyote sightings in the area recently so probably better to drive then walk down the dark lane.

We had such a great day, spending time with great friends in their homes. One more day in the area before we move on towards to Toronto.
