Alabama to Tennesse

Montgomery to Nashville, 04.22.2018

After a few very busy days we decided to have a bit of a sleep in day before our travel up to Nashville. We had a nice breakfast at the Super 8 before heading out (eggs, sausage, toast, hash browns and all the usual continent fare). Pretty darn good for a Super 8.

Montgomery is the capital city of Alabama. The black granite Civil Rights Memorial and adjacent exhibition center commemorate the Civil Rights Movement. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church, a hub for the Montgomery bus boycott. Close by is the domed, 1850s Alabama State Capitol. East of downtown, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts displays porcelain and American and African art. Being a sunday many things were closed, but we were able to check things out around town that didn't require an entrance.

On the road again...
Straight up the I-65 to Nashville.
We got into Nashville about 2:30-3:00. The owners left the key under the mat so we would not have to fuss with the lock box in the rain.

The place we are staying in is in Lockewood Historical District in East Nashville. The owners developed a panhandle studio unit on the back part of their property for the purpose of a guest suite and/or short term rental. They ended up tearing down the old shed and building a large structure with a loft ceiling. Absolutely amazing space. It has a studio apartment with a full kitchen and small sitting area. There is also a loft space with 2 single mattresses on the floor. Everything is decorated very nicely. The places we have chosen keep getting better and better. We have a separate entrance off of the back alley with a parking space as well. Once we got settled we headed out to explore the city.

We took a drive down to Broadway to check things out. Lots of action on a Sunday. A bit like Bourbon street in New Orleans, only country themed. We headed for lunch while we were out an over to try another DDD recommendation. "The Grilled Cheeserie" over in the Belmont/Hillsboro district. The Grilled Cheeserie Shop provides Nashville, Tennessee and surrounding areas with gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches and delicious, nostalgic treats. Made with seasonally-inspired and locally-sourced ingredients, it's truly a grilled cheese beyond compare! Grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup for lunch was a perfect lunch on a cold rainy day.
