Jacqui Jones went to her first Yoga class whilst studying 'O' Levels in 1978. She attended various weekly classes, including Viniyoga and Iyengar, for the next 7 years. This was followed with a personal practice combined with reading the classical texts such as The Upanishads and The Bhagavad-Gita. Later she used the asana and pranayama breathing techniques learnt in Yoga whilst in labour with her two daughters. Jacqui has not always been in good health but Yoga has always been her route back to wellbeing. As her daughters began to grow up she studied with the British School of Yoga and gained the BSY Hatha Yoga Teaching Diploma. She began teaching in September 2002, two classes per week at Fitness First in Pontefract. Beginning in Jan 2005 Jacqui then studied the Heart Yoga/Inner Yoga Trust Foundation Teachers Awareness Programme at Bodywise in the Manchester Buddhist Centre, completing this in March 2006. In August 2005 she began teaching a class at The Glasshoughton Healthy Living Centre as well as teaching at Xercise at Xscape, Castleford. In November 2005 Jacqui was delighted to be accepted onto the British Wheel of Yoga Teacher Diploma course tutored by Di Kendall. This 500 hour course is the industry “gold” standard yoga teaching qualification in the UK and the British Wheel of Yoga is a Sport England recognised national governing body for Yoga in the UK. Jacqui completed this after three and a half years in early 2009 and now is a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals as a Level 3 Yoga Teacher. Jacqui has also worked for Thorpe Park Spa in Leeds and later full time for Yorkshire Yoga and Therapy Centre. The centre is one of four recognised BWY Approved Centres in the U.K. Jacqui appeared on the BBC 'One Show' teaching Hot Yoga to Dr Marty Jopson, also she did a demonstration at the 'Change for Life' LIVE Exhibition. She has attended workshops with renowned yogis such as TKV Desikachar, Menaka Desikachar and Mekhala Desikachar, Ranju Roy, Paul Harvey and David Sye. In July 2013 Jacqui completed Philip Xerri's Pranayama Module with the BWY which she incorporates into her classes, being committed to breathing and mindfulness practices as a way to good mental health and freedom from anxiety. She has also qualified in 'Yoga for Healthy Lower Backs' with Alison Trewhela, a programme proven effective for chronic low back pain by The University of York research. Results of this RCT research funded by Arthritis Research UK have been published in top journals. This is the world’s largest ever scientific yoga research study.
