Eataly and Old things......

Rome, 05.25.2017

We are here in one of the gotta-eat-lots part of the world. Landed at 1 pm to an awesome day of 25 degrees with lots of sun. We had to do a bit of fooling around to find a ride into the city to get us to our newest abode. Arrived by 3 pm after we took a shuttle from the airport. The usual try to overcharge and the games that are always played. We were very tired after not sleeping much on the plane (crying kids, old men getting up to pee, not me if that is what you are thinking). The best idea would be to go to relax and get a good night in before tackling the city. Instead we went immediately to the

Colosseum. What an awe inspiring place! The history and magnificence of this place is beyond incredible. We are going back to that area tomorrow after the Vatican. Could stay a month in this city alone. First day was so much fun, I just can't wait until tomorrow....

We finished the day by stuffing our faces with pizza, pasta, and wine. All 3 were the best I have had yet! Other than the wine at my friend Ted's in Oliver. Perfect way to end a very long but exciting day. Katelyn asked for a glass of house wine and got a half bottle in a glass. She is sleeping now. Exhaustion and wine. Perfect combination! Early morning for the Vatican tomorrow........

Day 2 in Rome. We went crazy! In the Vatican at 7:05 am. Why? Pictures tell a thousand words......

Early meant very few people around. Very enjoyable. We were in the

Sistine Chapel with 50 others which was perfect. Later when they let the masses in it turned into chaos. When we left Vatican City there were thousands and it was packed. Vatican City was amazing and more than worth the trip. Saint Peter's Basilica was so extravagant and beautiful that it can't be described in pictures. After we went to the Spanish Steps (kinda ho hum), Trevi Fountain (incredible), and the forum (pile of rocks). Trevi Fountain was a big surprise and quite an incredible place to see. Very hot today which made it harder to keep up the energy while walking around. This city is an incredible journey through ancient history. We spent 12 hours touring all these places and were entirely exhausted in the end, but very happy to be here to see these incredible sites. A lot of walking and fighting crowds, but worth every minute. Slept for 11 hours to catch up from flying and loss of sleep.
