Totally Different.....

Bar, Montenegro, 06.07.2017

After travelling for a good 21 hours we arrived in Bar, Montenegro at about 7:30 this morning. Kinda tired, but we walked to our AirBnb and took a shower and were on the trail to see the sites of Bar and area. Didn't arrive back to our place until 9:00 pm. Another 11 hour day and lots of places we saw. After the easy organized travel of Italy, we were subjected to 3rd world type travel today. All day was an exercise in alternate communication methods, poor directions, and wrong signage. We had fun with it and ended up accomplishing all we wanted.
Went to ancient site of old Bar which originally had inhabitants starting in 700 BC. Had taken a city bus, but they misunderstood where we were going and kicked us off the bus about 1/3 of the way there. Grabbed a cab with another pair of travellers and beat the bus to the site. Cost us an extra 1 1/2 euros. Old town quit being a functioning part of the city in 1878, so it had a pretty good run. Very interesting place with some well preserved parts. Left the Old Town and headed to the 2240 year old Olive Tree. That tree has seen a few interesting times. We decided to walk to the tree. Took us a little while with many questions for directions along the way. Not much to see but an old tree, but an interesting story around it. Caught a ride to the train station from a guy who lived by the tree and got a ticket for Lake Skadar. Got to the train station for the lake around 3pm and the place was totally deserted. Reminded me of a typical rural community on a Sunday afternoon. We walked down the highway to the lake and found a vibrant tourist resort. Took a two hour tour around this beautiful mountainous lake which had a ton of wildlife around it. Mostly birds. After the tour we walked a km back up the

highway to the train station and sat in the deserted place waiting for a return train. Very surreal. Eventually others showed up and a train came to take us back to Bar. Grabbed some food from a street vendor for supper and headed to the AirBnb. Very tired but satisfied on a fun day.
