Day 105: 19km walk!!

Tongariro Alpine Crossing, 11.24.2019

Today we were up at 5am to get a 2 hour bus to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing Walk! I was quite nervous for this walk, as it was supposed to take us around 6 or 7 hours and the weather forecast was predicting high temperatures. I was however, looking forward to eating the collection of snacks I had put together for the day! Setting off around 7:30am, it was very chilly however we soon warmed up and were taking off layers as we started to climb the volcanos. The views from the top were absolutely incredible, especially seeing the Emerald Lake and the Red Crater! And even though it was so sunny and warm, there was still snow on the ground which was so cool! Sometimes it was actually harder walking downhill, given that the volcanic rock crumbled away as you walked! I finished the 19.4km walk in 6 hours and I was so proud of myself having not done much exercise recently, I'm so glad I did it! Mummy rang me during the last 2km's which helped distract me a lot!! We got the bus back to our hostel in Lake Taupo, all with achy legs and very tired! Me and Alex got showered and had a nap, and then we treated ourselves to a Maccies for dinner!

A Trip of a Lifetime!
