Brighton Beach St Kilda, 20.02.2018

My next adventure was with Becca as we walked to Brighton Beach. Not the one on the South coast of England but the little one near St Kilda. It was a little cloudy in the morning so it wasn’t too hot to do a long walk. It took as just under an hour and a half before we reached the little colourful beach huts. I liked the one with a big fish on it and there was another one with a camper-van on it that was pretty cool too! Once we reached the beach the sun came out and I instantly wanted ice cream and cold things to cool off. I took a dip in the sea which was FREEZING! So I quickly returned to the comfort of my towel. We lay there for a while before it became too hot for me. And then...

I looked down. "What's this brown colour all over me?" I wondered. I hadn't held any wildlife and I had been pretty careful about where I was stepping in the sea. And then I realised..."I've got a tan!" An

actual tan! I have real tan lines and everything! I was very proud of it and then Becca returned looking Beyonce brown, and I looked down at my slightly golden skin and it looked instantly white again. Our bathroom had huge mirrors along the wall so I enjoyed checking out my tan and sobbing at my flab in equal measure! It was a very confusing time for my self-esteem.

That evening we decided to go and check out the penguins. They gather along the rocks by the boardwalk after sunset and can often be seen coming in from their long day of fishing. We found a spot on the incredibly crowded deck and awaited penguins. Two could be seen already on the rocks. It was far too dark to take a picture but to the naked eye, you could see them clearly with their white fluffy tummies! They were adorable! We waited a while longer but no more emerged and there were so many people about, so it wasn't long before we headed back to the hostel.
