#LightsandLyrics

Davidson, 17.12.2017

Tonight we headed to Davidson, a wealthy suburb just 15 minutes from Dee Why, which is famous for having a beautiful light displays for Christmas.

We pulled up outside a brightly lit house. Santas stood happily in the garden while other ornaments whirled and twirled under the sparkly lights. The display was all along one road starting from the fire station. First stop- ice cream! Within seconds it began to melt in the intense heat and we had to eat them fast as they dripped down our hands.

The first house we came across was chocka block full of decorations! Every inch of garden sparkled with something, be it a light, a snow man, a Santa or a reindeer. In the windows a projected video played a story of elves putting gifts under the tree. The children all gathered around excitedly as they pointed out each new thing to spot and see!
Berry pointed out to me that I have now become a cynical adult as my first response was “Bloody hell! How much would their electric bill cost!”
The house’s neighbour obviously had two thoughts as to what they could do.
1. Sack off the decorating all together as there was no way they could compete.
Or
2. String up some lights and stick a Santa in the middle of the garden!
They chose the latter! I would have put up one of those arrow signs pointing to the neighbours house with the words “what they said” lit up on it.

The rest of the road was also very pretty with lots of different characters to see. Along the way we heard some singing and found that a house was hosting a sing along carol service in their front garden.
They had projected the words on the screen to allow people to sing along but one older lady, oblivious to her crime decided to stand directly in front of the screen covering the majority of the lyrics so that only hard core carolers that knew the words were able to join in.

Annoyingly, I had known the words to silent night but the singer decided to throw in his own irritating rendition of the tune which meant everyone was out of time with each other and confused!

After the carols had finished we headed back across the street and home. It was nice to feel Christmassy as it’s a very different atmosphere in Australia around Christmas because it’s so hot and sunny and far too hot for Christmas hats and jumpers!!
