Magnetic Island, 25.10.2017

After my breakfast with koalas, Steph found me and we headed to the bay to meet Sonja for a walk. We had great plans of scaling the cliffs and visiting each bay. Onwards! About 100 yards from the first bay we reached a signpost with two options of which way we could walk. We picked the shorter one of course and made our way up. Everywhere in Australia seems to be on a high incline. We climbed up and up and up until we reached the end of the path. The area was so remote you could only reach the bay by climbing across rocks and boulders. My head down, I carefully manoeuvred along, trying not to get stuck or fall between rocks.

I quickly looked up from my task and saw a bronzed flash of flesh as a really old, fat naked man stood before me! I quickly changed my look of horror to one of indifference as I didn’t want to appear rude to this naked beachgoer! He smiled at me and went merrily on his way. As I joined the other two girls we all looked at each other in mock horror before falling around in fits of giggles like school children as we realised we had managed to find the one nudist beach on the island.

Feeling nervous about seeing more of Australia’s elder naturists we made our way into the soft white sand. Only a group of three girls lay sunbathing and all wearing costumes so we found the only sheltered area on the beach which was under some large rocks and lay down for a rest. An hour later, luckily still in shade, we all awoke from a wonderful nap.
The glistening sea looked too inviting not to go in so we all jumped through the waves for a swim. In the distance another naked man walked confidently across the beach dressed just in a sun hat! At least he’s being sun safe!

The adventurous walk was abandoned as it was just too hot to hike and the beach was just too nice to leave so we stayed for a while longer before heading back over the rocks and to the bus. Our last bucket list item for magnetic island awaited! The rock wallabies!
