Our time in Germany

Erfurt, Germany, 08.02.2017

This week we went to a small city in the very middle of Germany called Erfurt. We stayed for five nights. In WW2 Erfurt was not bombed many times so most of the historical structures are still standing. It is a centre of medieval history including the Merchants Bridge. It is one of three in the world, the others are in Venice and Florence! The Merchants Bridge has tiny houses and shops including a puppet making workshop which Mum loved. You could pay one euro for your own mechanical puppet show in the street. We visited the cathedral and Petersburg Citadel which was a medieval fortress built to protect the city!

On our second day we went ice-skating where the Junior World Cup for ice-skating was about to happen. Dad flopped like a cow on ice! Kessy was our friend who took us ice-skating and around the city.
On Saturday we travelled to Oberhof where there was so much deep snow up in the mountains. We fumbled around for a long time and finally got back to the 2km downhill toboggan trail though the forest. It was amazing as we went past a frozen lake and seeing all the snow-covered trees. Down the slopes I took a video and lots of selfies on dad's phone! We were so lucky to be invited to go to our German friends Harold and Lina's home. We went there for dinner and ate lots of German food like bratwurst sausages, mashed potato and sauerkraut! Harold played Bavarian songs on his piano accordion, it was heaps of fun!
