Russian Twats & and a bit of rain

Phuket - BKK Part 2, 11.11.2016

11th November 2016

So after having pampered myself the night before I decided to get my butt outdoors and go exploring. I stupidly seem to have taken the glorious weather for granted as I spent the entire morning on slow mode. After updating my blog and stuffing my face at breakfast I packed my bag and headed out to explore the area of Karon, Phuket.

I managed to get about 5 meters away from the hotel before the heavens opened up, but I was determined not to let the wet weather dampen my spirits, and so onwards I went getting slowly wetter and wetter with each step I took. I finally found my way onto the Karon beach stretch, although by the time I arrived all the tourists that had been on the beach for the morning sun were running from the beach like a scene from Jaws. Again, I wasn't going to let this weather deter me, after all, it was still 30 degrees and I was planning on swimming anyway which meant I would get wet - so what's a little rain?

Turns out a little rain and being in the sea isn't such a good idea.
The tide was so strong that one lady got swept out to sea and had to be rescued by life guards. The same nearly happened to me but thankfully I managed to get myself back onto land and had to sit out the storm until it passed.
Note to self - in 2017 become a stronger swimmer!

Once the sun came out it was a glorious day of snoozing, swimming and chilling on the beach. I haggled and managed to get myself some bargains from the beach vendors selling items such as hand woven hammocks and brollies made from Banana leaves.
I managed to get my hammock down from 4000bht to 200bht purely for being nice. The locals said there is a strong Russian tourist trade in the area but unfortunately the Russians treat the Thais like dogs and speak to them like they are worth nothing. Purely by being friendly, smiling, attempting to to speak Thai and just being respectful, I found several locals would end up sitting with me for a chat. They also gave me freebies and would even then forget to barter for their weirs and asked me what did I was to pay? Any price I like but dont shout it loud in case the Russians over heard, and that it was so lovely to meet someone respectful and thank you me for the kindness and respect.

Odd isn't it?
You take it for granted that people think and act the same as you do, but reality is often not the case. I cannot believe that people think it is acceptable to travel to a foreign country and then speak to the locals and natives of that country like shit! It beggars belief.
Just because one country or another may be poorer than the country you originate, does not make you better than the people around you. Money does not make you a good person.
Money and entitlement do not give you the right to treat people like second class citizens.
Money and upbringing does not make you better than ANYONE.
And here I was hearing from the locals at how they are treated by the Russians. It honestly makes me sick when I hear stories like this.

Anyway, after my lazy day I headed back to the hotel for a cheeky swim before dinner. I ended up chatting to two lovely ladies from Oz

called Carolyn & Adriana who were propping up the pool bar and were probably closer in age to my mum than me. Butthey seemed up for a good laugh (aka were drunk in the pool bar when I met them and thought these are my kind of ladies!) and kindly invited me to join them at dinner when they heard I was on my own. How lovely is that. so after our swim and heels on for the first time all trip, in a taxi we jumped and on our way to the dreaded Patong strip we headed. Luckily the ladies knew of a NICE restaurant in the area, which was actually really really nice, the rest of Patong however - O my.....

Hello lady, you want to see ping pong?
Hello lady you want to learn new tricks?
And my personal favourite - the old, fat, ugly, balding, disgusting men running around with young beautiful Thai girls (who looked closer to 14 years old I must note), while screaming in pretence that they were having fun. You just knew those girls were going to wake up next to those disgusting men and it honestly broke my heart. Those women are only in that situation because of the poverty out there. So you get a white working class man from england, put him in Patong and he will appear to be a king with his wealth. Put him back in his own environment, and he's still that fat ugly loser struggling to make ends meet. So I guess you could say all parties benefit, but I couldnt help but feel more for the girls. Perhaps because I am female myself, but still , it was a sad sight to see - of which I will never repeat should I go to Thailand again...

Phuket - i'm sorry, but I didn't fall in love with you....
