I want to change or delete a layout. How do I do that?

You can find all the page layouts of our application under the button “layouts.” Scroll down to view the entire selection. Once you see a layout that you like, drag it to the desired page in your book. Gray content blocks will appear on the page: you can fill these with pictures, maps or an empty box.

Did you change you mind about the layout? Change the layout by dragging a new layout to the page. If you want to completely delete a layout and remove all the gray blocks, drag the layout for text only to a page. This is the first layout in the selection. When there is no text on the page, the whole page will be removed from the diary and the gray blocks will disappear.

How can I insert or delete a chapter?

You can add a chapter to your journal by clicking “new” under the tab “chapters.” You can then enter your text and save it, so it will appear in your diary as a new chapter. When you click on the text in your diary, you will return to the text editor to edit your chapter. This is also where you can delete a chapter. You can swap chapters by clicking the button “list.” Change them by using the arrow buttons right next to your chapter titles.

Please note that our software is programmed in a way that a diary always has to contain at least one chapter. This means you cannot delete your first chapter, you can only adjust it.

What are the delivery times of the diaries?

The books created with Travel Diaries are produced by an external party. They have production times of up to three working days for a soft cover and up to five working days for the production of a hard cover, a linen cover and a leather cover. Therefore, anticipated delivery times are between one week and three weeks for shipping worldwide. This does not depend on how many books you order.

Where can I find the prices of a diary?

The price of a journal depends entirely on the number of pages and the type of cover that you choose. You can print a diary starting from forty pages with a soft cover from €17,20, excluding delivery costs. Find all our indicative prices at the bottom of our tour.

Do I get a discount if I order multiple copies of my diary?

Yes! For every second book you order, you will get a 10% discount. You can order up to ten books at a time. Please note that the discount only applies to exact copies of the same diary, ordered in one time.

I cannot login / I forgot my password.

If you have lost your password, click the login button that you will find on the homepage. Here you will find a link to the page where you can reset your password. Please make sure you enter the same email address you created the account with. We will send you an email with which you can reset your password.

How do I delete my account?

When logged in, go to “account” to delete your account. Under “options” you will find the button to delete your account. After you have confirmed your decision, your account will be deleted.

How do I remove a diary?

Go to your dashboard to manage all your diaries. You can remove a diary by pressing the delete button underneath the diary. We will always ask you for a confirmation before deleting your diary. Please note that all formatting and data will be lost if you remove a diary.

Can I order my diary in a different format?

For now, we have chosen to offer only our printed diaries in A5-format: the format of a regular travel journal. Our software is not suited to create a diary in any other format at this time.

In what browsers can I use Travel Diaries?

Travel Diaries operates in the latest version of Firefox and Chrome: these are automatically updated. Furthermore, Travel Diaries works in Internet Explorer version 8 to 11, and in the latest version of Safari on the Mac within IOS. Preferably use Chrome or Safari on any iPad.

What is the business model of Travel Diaries?

We make money only from selling the printed diaries. We do not make money with advertising or other business. We do not exclude any other business models in the future, but we will always be transparent about this and we will never sell any data of our customers to third parties without explicit permission.

Travel Diaries doesn’t work the way it should on my iPad. What can I do?

Travel Diaries should be working well on all tablets. However, we do notice that our application is slow on some very old iPads. This is difficult to avoid. Travel Diaries is a big application, so devices must be able to handle that. You can test this by opening other large applications on your iPad. If they work well and Travel Diaries does not, please contact us.

What is the maximum number of pages I can add to my diary?

In the online editor you can add an unlimited amount of pages. If you plan to order a printed copy of your diary, though, we advise you to stick to a maximum number of pages of 320. We do support diaries with a larger amount of pages, but for the best result we advise you stay under 320 pages.

My bold or italic text doesn’t appear in my diary.

Not all fonts available in Travel Diaries have bold or italic weights. Probably you have chosen a font without bold and italic. Although it might appear as an option in the text editor, it will not show in your diary. A warning is shown when you change the font to one without bold and italic. Currently, only Arial, Courier New, Georgia and Ubuntu Mono have all font weights.

The payment doesn’t work the way it should.

If you get an error during the payment via iDeal, it often has to do with a failure of the bank concerned. In that case try again later or try the payment via PayPal or credit card. Does it not work this way either? Please contact us!

The cover of the diary can't be cropped. Why not?

Your diary will get thicker when you add more pages. That makes the spine of the cover larger as well. That is why the dimensions of the cover image cannot be completely determined in advance. It is important that the picture remains large and of high quality so that it will appear as sharp and beautiful as possible on the cover.

The picture on the cover is strangely zoomed in.

If that’s the case, you probably have chosen a portrait photo instead of a landscape photo. Because the figure is around the entire cover (on the front and rear), you should best use a landscape, or horizontal, photo. Keep in mind that the right of the picture will be on the front and the left of the photo will be on the back. In the preview, you can see how the photo will look on the front. The back side is dependent on the number of pages in the journal, as that is related to the thickness of the book.

In the order process, the sample cover does not look the same as the cover I made.

The image you see in the ordering process is just a sample picture and not the end result of your diary. Your journal will be printed as you made it in the application.

Can Travel Diaries also be used for other journals?

Of course! Our focus at this moment is specifically for travelers, but our software can be used equally well for different kind of journals, such as personal journals, baby books or biographical stories.

How can I insert a photo or delete one?

The image that will appear in your dashboard is by default the first image from your diary. If you have not yet uploaded images in your journal, it remains empty in the dashboard. Once you add a photo to your journal, it will be placed on your dashboard. The cover is not considered a “normal' images” because we store the covers in a different proportion.

How is the price calculated over a hundred pages?

The price of the journal consists of a base price, which then rises on the basis of the number of pages. The price goes up by €2,25 for every 10 additional pages.

Will my response to a blog automatically be placed on Facebook?

No, your comment will only be posted on Facebook if you check “also post to Facebook.” It is true that the checkmark by Facebook itself is enabled by default, but users can themselves choose to turn it off. We cannot change it.

How can I insert a photo or delete one?

You can place a photo by first dragging the layout you want to a page. Then you click on a gray content and then "upload image." You can then select a file, crop and upload. If you want to delete a photo, click on the photo. You can then choose to delete an image or add another image. You can also choose to add a map or empty box.

Is it possible for people to respond on a blog even though they don’t have Facebook?

Sorry, no. Because the vast majority of our users and followers use Facebook, we have currently chosen to use this plugin for responding to blogs. If people don’t have Facebook and still want to respond, they can create a free account on Facebook.

I want my diary to change from public to private. How do I do that?

You can do this by going to your journal editor and pressing the "share" button. Then click the “Settings” tab and choose “share only certain chapters.” You can now decide which chapters you want to have public and which not. If you want your whole diary to be private, you can uncheck them all.

Can Travel Diaries be used offline?

There is no offline application of Travel Diaries yet. You can use the Travel Diaries online on all tablets and computers. If you don’t have access to the Internet, we recommend that you write your texts in an offline word processing program like Word, Pages or Notes. When there is Internet again, you can easily cut and paste your text. The good news is that we are currently developing an app for mobile and tablet that you’ll be able to work offline with! How do I share my journal without making it public?

At this moment it is not possible to share your journal without making it public. We create a link that you have to share so people can see your journal through that link. However, you can choose which media channels you use to publish your diary chapters or full diary.

How do I insert a map?

You can insert a map by dragging a preferred layout into the page. Click on the gray content and then on “make map.” There are two options: a simple map, where you can drag pins into the map, or a route map, where you can draw a route plan in it. You can always change the map in the process later.

What is an empty box?

An empty box is a box that you can add in order to leave a small blank space in your diary so you can put something on there later. The edges disappear when printing and only the text remains. When you get your physical diary delivered to your home, you can put train tickets, plane tickets and other keepsakes in those black spaces of your diary.
